Al Bateen Executive Airport’s VVIP Terminal has been awarded a 3 Pearl Rating by Estidama, the system used by the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities to acknowledge a building’s green credentials.
Opened last year, the VVIP Terminal is predominantly used by royalty, visiting heads of state, and business executives, and has been constructed to strict sustainability guidelines.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, Abdul Majeed Al Khoori commented; “Sustainability is something that we keep at the front of mind in every infrastructure project that we undertake at Abu Dhabi Airports. We are proud that this commitment has been recognized, leading to the prestigious VVIP terminal at Al Bateen Executive Airport receiving the Three Pearl Rating. We thank the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities for this recognition and look forward to collaborating with them on our future projects in order to achieve sustainable transportation infrastructure and growth in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.”
The aim of the Pearl Building Rating System (PBRS) is to promote the development of sustainable buildings and improve quality of life. Achievement of a sustainable building requires the integration of the four pillar of Estidama – Social, Cultural, Economic and Environmental - together with a collaborating and interdisciplinary approach to building development known as the Integrated Development Process.
The PBRS encourages water, energy, and waste minimization, local material use and aims to improve supply chains for sustainable and recycled materials and products.
The VVIP terminal has been segregated off from the main airport and has its own road access, allowing a discrete entrance and exit for those who require extra privacy. Covering an area of 2,200sq.m., the building has a distinctive curved roof inspired by the iconic design of the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) currently being constructed at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The terminal is a stand-alone structure, with its own dedicated carpark, immigration services, and passport facilities.
The interior of the building has been configured to the highest possible specifications, catering to all the requirements to be expected by VVIP passengers. These include an open majlis, private majlis, presidential suite, meeting rooms, offices and male and female prayer rooms.
Every aspect of the building’s design, development and finish has been delivered to the highest standards, in keeping with the airport’s desire to provide passengers with the best possible service.
